Sprint Surrey Write-Up December 2003 |
|
N.B. Don’t read this yet, fill in the Le Mans form, put it in an envelope with your cheque, run down to the post box, post it, run back, now you can read this! This is the last write up for 2003. What a great year! The calendar had been full to overflowing; I hope there was something for everyone. If you have any suggestions for events, pubs, etc please tell us and we’ll do our best to fix it for you (Jimmy, Jimmy, jewellery, jewellery!). October saw a variety of events starting with the monthly meet. The pub was packed and we welcomed new member, Tony Charles with his beautiful 430 SE. The wall planner is starting to fill up and we have decided on a definite date for Le Surrey Run – part deux. This will be the first weekend in September. Check out the website for full details (www.tvrcc-surrey.co.uk) and book ferries early as they’re cheap. The next event was a trip to Racing Green to inspect their new T350T’s. A convoy set off from Hart’s Boat Yard and made its way towards the dealership. Unfortunately, the traffic light fairies were out in force so one convoy swiftly became four! Anyway, we all arrived at RG and had a good poke about the show room. Bacon sarnies were demolished whilst ogling the cars. Thanks to all at Racing Green for your kind hospitality. The next port of call was Virginia Waters where a good number of cars (and drivers) assembled for lunch and tyre-kicking. The last Surrey Sunday of 2003 was a multi-region meet at The Woodman, Ide Hill. Thanks to Nick Smith for suggesting this great location. Members came from all over the South East to enjoy lunch and discuss the exploits of the last 12 months. I’m still trying to work out what delights you would have been presented with if you had ordered”Durban Bunny Chow or Beef Vegetarian?!” Surely, an oxymoron! It was great to see so many familiar faces and some new ones; we must do something similar in 2004. Middlesex TVRCC held a meet at the Ace Café and some of the Surrey crowd went along to meet the neighbours. I can highly recommend the scampi! Even the local boys in blue (one just happens to own a chimaera) turned up and showed everyone the toys they get to play with (including a number plate recognition system). Best (loaded) question asked of the bib: - What do you think of people with laser jammers? Hello to Jules, a new Tuscan owner, who came along to her first event. Thanks for the photo of Mon-keh! Pistonheaders from all over the World converged on Staverton, near Daventry, for the annual Black Tie and Pie weekend. The car park contained a veritable who’s who from across the performance car world. Steve was lucky enough to get a ride in a Lamborghini Diablo (thanks Tony) which really was the cherry on the cake. Mon-keh was dressed up to the nines and cut a dash on the dance floor. The Surrey contingent looked equally splendid; photos can be found on the website. Well done to Steve Nesta and Jeremy Copp who won the award for “Best Event of 2003” for the Surrey Runs. DVD’s are available from Steve Nesta in exchange for beer tokens. A TVR Christmas Poem
Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat.
I want to take this opportunity, on behalf of the regional membership, to say a big “Thanks” to Tony Connor, for all your efforts as Editor of this fine publication. These will be large boots to fill. Your enthusiasm for all things TVR has turned Sprint into the much anticipated, must read monthly we all love. Steve and I will miss you at the helm. Mon-keh, whose iconic status could not have reached such dizzying heights without your support, sends his best wishes. Come and visit us, you’re assured a rapturous welcome. Finally, Merry Christmas and a peaceful New Year to all our friends. Let’s hope for dry weather and empty roads across the festive season. See you all at the last meet of 2003 on December 17th at The Jovial Sailor, Ripley. Bring a cracker to pull as silly hats are a must!
Best wishes,
